A ONE FISH FISHIN' TRIP!
We left Susitna landing on the Bearcats for a mad dash to Trapper Lake. It was blowing and snowing and I was not expecting to stay that long. After a long ten mile trip to my favorite spot on the lake, I put my tipup in a freshly augered hole.....30 seconds later WHAM!! Flag up!! I knew I had something big...it stripped line like I've never seen before and then stopped like a rock. My fishing buddy Dave even came over to look. (That is rare!) I nursed it along on my 10 pound test and wire leader. Weeds and mud stirred off the 18 inch bottom were coming up through the hole first. Finally after about 15 minutes I got it steered into the 10 inch hole....A head as big as the hole came at me. It was one of those fish you can't take your eyes off of as it lies on the ice. My biggest pike ever!! 20 pounds and 41 inches. My last 3 pike were 33", 38" (at Flathorn) and then 41 inches! What a way to end the season. Note...It was the only fish we caught after 3 hours of fishing, but it was a trip I'll never forget. Great pictures, great stories, great friends.
