Our Photo of the Day will change whenever we have something new to post. As fishing season gets under way, no doubt there will be a few nice catches here.
Fall Is In The Air Had a great 2nd anniversary celebration this weekend. Darlene, Brittanee and I headed to a "secret spot" on the Peninsula for a great weekend of camping and grouse hunting. The warm weather on Saturday kept the animals under cover, but was Sunday ever something! The early morning jaunt through the woods and meadows was highlighted by spotting and watching a female lynx and her two kittens. We spent about ten minutes watching and listening to this family working their way through the spruce, that was quite a thrill. After being out a few hours, hunger got the best of us so we headed back to camp with visions of pancakes and bacon floating through our heads. The next thing we knew, we were surrounded by a gang of wily spruce grouse. I picked off the leader, Darlene pegged two with her .22 and nine-year-old Brittanee collected one with her single shot .22. After letting a few go for the next trip, we made it to camp and quickly wolfed down breakfast. Everyone was raring to head back out so back out we went. It didn't take long to surprise another marauding flock of spruce hens. Three made the mistake of wandering in front of Darlene's scoped .22 while Brittanee and I took care of one straggler each. We thought that was enough so we headed home. A great time! Photo Courtesy: Barry Stratton, Anchorage
