Our Photo of the Day will change whenever we have something new to post. As fishing season gets under way, no doubt there will be a few nice catches here.
The Silver Lining in Bird Creek Bird Creek has become a very popular urban fishing hole just a few minutes outside of Anchorage. And for a very good reason this season. Over ten thousand coho salmon as well as thousands of pink salmon returned this year due to an enhanced fisheries program provided by the Dept. of Fish & Game. Hundreds of anglers each day would make the trip for an evening of fishing after work. And with the plentiful supply of fresh fish on every high tide, it was a good opportunity for even young anglers to give it a try. Anglers used a variety of tackle, from salmon roe on a bobber to vibrax spinners and coho flies. Here are a couple of Bird Creek silvers John Wynne landed on his fly rod and coho flies one recent evening. The run is past its peak now but fish are still available and perhaps the crowds have thinned out a bit by now. Photo Courtesy: John Wynne, Jr., Anchorage
