Anchor River King Salmon Derby

Anchor Point is a small Peninsula community located 12 miles north of Homer and overlooking the Anchor River. This particular freshwater King Salmon fishery has tighter management regulations to ensure an adequate number of fish escape for spawning and replenishing the future runs of Kings. For this reason it is managed to allow fishing in the stream only on specific weekends during the early summer. This is not a deterrant for the sport angler as hundreds of fishermen may be lining the banks ready to cast at the stroke of midnight. With the longer days of summer, fishing is possible on the Peninsula nearly 24 hours a day.

This derby, sponsored by the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce, runs for five consecutive weekends beginning on Memorial Day. They generally offer grand prizes for first, second and third largest kings caught in the derby with cash and merchandise prizes offered for the largest fish caught each weekend. Tickets are available at the local tackle shops in Anchor Point and the proceeds support several local town projects.

Derby Date: 5 consecutive weekends beginning on Memorial Day
Ticket Cost: not available
Weekly Prizes: For top fish each weekend
Grand Prize: $1000 first place largest fish plus $800 trophy
Additional Prizes: $750 second place, $500 third place
