REGION: Kenai Peninsula
WATER: Kenai River
LEVEL: Above season average, too low for motors
CONDITIONS: Stable, murky
REPORT:
Kenai River - The water level has remained flat for the last few days at 5.9 ft. at the Soldotna Bridge. Stream flow is a bit above the 30 year average and running 1900 cu. ft. per second. Water quality is more murky stain than muddy from silt. Strangely absent this spring is the normal accumulation of fine sand along the exposed gravel shoreline. This could mean a cleaner river as levels begin to rise this spring and may provide better spring fishing conditions for kings in May.
Still a LOT of shore ice along the banks and although I haven't scouted any of the boat ramps, I'll go out on a limb and say I doubt any ramp is open yet for launching with trailers except for the City Dock in Kenai. I may get by Pillars, Big Eddy Jetty and Centennial Park on Thursday for a look and update before the weekend.

WATER: Kenai River
LEVEL: Very Low
CONDITIONS: Ice Out and Break Up.
REPORT:
Kenai River - Well it finally happened. This was the latest I've seen the Kenai ice go out in 30 seasons now. With above normal snowpack in the Kenai Mountains and a cool spring, breakup runoff may be very prolonged this year....or a heat wave may occur and put us in some fast rising water conditions bordering on flood potential. Its all up to the weather this year. The potential is there for some tough conditions this season.
