Email: akrver@aol.com
Date: 12/1/99

Region: Kenai Peninsula
Trail System or Name: Angler Trail Russian River

Milepost/Trailhead Location:Russian River Campground/Sterling Hwy MP 52

Trail Length:2 miles

Difficulty: Easy
REPORT: Covered by a thin blanket of snow the trail is still in good condition for hiking. The Russian River is having "overflow" problems (water running over ice) that makes for beautiful scenes.

My partner, Salmonhead and I were totally alone with more eagles than we could count. The Kenai River is low and not many anglers with air temp readings of 15 degrees. Having serious withdrawal from fishing this year. Not an ice fishing couple. Well, till June 14 at 11:59 pm, we have our memory of last summer.

Region: Kenai Peninsula - Kachemak Bay State Park
Trail System or Name: Sadie Cove Lodge Mountain Goat Trail

Milepost/Trailhead Location:Sadie Cove Wildeness Lodge

Trail Length:3 miles

Difficulty: Challenging
REPORT: Lodge owners, Keith & Randi Iverson are near completion of a 3 mile trail which begins behind Sadie Cove Wilderness Lodge and leads up to the summer feeding grounds of the local Mountain Goats. The trail passes through some rocky Black Bear winter den areas and has relatively steep portions. The views are magnificent and the chances of seeing wildlife are excellent. The trail is being built for the use of Lodge guests.

Region: Kenai Peninsula
Trail System or Name: Sadie Cove Lodge Hiking Trail

Milepost/Trailhead Location:Sadie Cove Wildeness Lodge

Trail Length: 2.5 miles to level 1 then up to 20 miles

Difficulty: Challenging
REPORT: Trail behind Sadie Cove Wilderness Lodge has just been reworked and remarked to facilitate hiking groups visiting the Lodge. The weather has been outstanding and the views of the Cove memorable. The first 2.5 miles leads to a pastoral pond where in the summer ducks often nest. From the pond a person can look out over Wosnesenski Glacier and its corresponding braided river leading into Kachemak Bay. This would be the start up point for a climb to Sadie Peak (4320') or a descend into the Wosnesenski River valley.
