This region is literally in the heart of the Kenai Peninsula and contains some of the most productive and popular fishing waters in the entire state. The upper Kenai River provides an outstanding trophy rainbow trout fishery which is easily accessed and fished from the road system which parallels it or by hiking along the river on the opposite side. Anglers from all over the world come to experience the rugged beauty of the area and the 2000+ trout per mile of high quality fishing.

Also detailed in this map is the world famous Russian River where two separate runs of sockeye salmon make this the most-fished river in the entire state. Red salmon harvests by anglers typically exceed one hundred thousand fish each year. In addition this stream sports a very fine catch and release fishery for rainbow trout and a small but fun fishery for late summer and early fall silver salmon.

There are a great many Forest Service trails in the Chugach National Forest identified on this map and each have a text description of length, time to hike, degree of difficulty and campsite information. These trails are very popular during the summer months and provide a variety of wilderness terrain and scenery. Some even have Forest Service cabins on their route which can be reserved in advance through the Internet or phone.

All of Skilak Lake, Kenai Lake, Hidden Lake and the dozens of smaller lakes, including lower and upper Russian Lakes are also featured on this map.

Whether you are camping, hiking, fishing for trout or salmon, hunting, goldpanning, or just wanting to know what's around the next bend, this map represents one of the Kenai Peninsula's most scenic mountain passes that leads to the central, western and southern peninsula areas.
